Heng lunged, the heavy hydro-spanner a futile extension of his will. Zero's influence pulsed through the Sky's End Anchor, a parasitic song that vibrated in Heng’s bones and twisted the already-stressed chain. The upward abyss beckoned, promising oblivion, a permanent release from the desperate grip of existence. Heng gripped the spanner tighter, his knuckles white, a prayer of sheer holding on against the dying groan of metal.

The ancient anchor chain snapped, its final link unmoored. Chain Guard Heng screamed, not for himself, but for the entire city now held only by the whim of Zero's echo.
