Heng's Anchor Snaps Under The Shadow's Grasp

Heng lurched as the Sky's End Anchor groaned, a sound that vibrated deep in his bones. He gripped his own anchor chain, knuckles white, the familiar weight a cold comfort against the rising panic. The colossal Shadow's Arrival was closer now, its descent not a fall but an inexorable pull, drawn by the Anchor's fractured embrace.

He felt it then – a ripple, not through the city's structure, but through his very being. Zero's voice, distant and echoing, whispered through the psychic static, urging surrender, peace. "Let go... the sky... welcomes..."

"Never!" Heng roared, spitting the word into the upward abyss. He saw the chain, his lifeline, his cage, begin to sing a discordant tune, strands parting under an unseen strain. The Shadow's mass seemed to warp reality around it, and the Pull grew impossibly strong, focused on him.

The Sky's End Anchor, a twisted monument to Tiechui's sacrifice and Reflection's lost memories, shuddered violently. Zero's influence warred with its failing integrity, and for a terrifying instant, the city lurched downwards, then snapped back, leaving Heng reeling.

The Shadow's Arrival shuddered, a fragment of the anchoring mass tearing free and arcing directly towards Heng, who could only watch as his anchor chain began to fray.
