Gravity Witch Reflection, bracing herself against a rivet-encrusted wall, felt a familiar tremor of memory loss, sharp and sudden as a falling shard of metal.

The 'pull,' the new force anchoring them, was still unstable, a desperate gift from Anchor-smith Tiechui's final moments.

Chain Guard Heng, his grip a vise on a bolted handrail, shouted over the groaning of strained chains. "Reflection! Report! Has the resonance stabilized? The Council's ships are gathering at the perimeter!" He eyed her with a mixture of desperation and lingering suspicion.

His memory of Tiechui's sacrifice, of their nascent alliance, felt fragile, as if the Council's whispers had already begun to corrode it.
